Matt Butel, Kirra Chiropractic.
Meet Matt Butel Chiropractor Kirra: Rather than focus on any particular style of Chiropractic or manual therapy technique, Matt draws upon decades of work and study to achieve outcomes for his patients with a best practice approach. Accordingly, he is more than capable in many technique styles common to Chiropractic, Osteopathy and Physiotherapy. Diagnostic protocols are key to what treatment an individual patient might respond to.
Matt and his wife Robyn started Currumbin Beach Chiropractic in 1997. The clinic space was previously a surf shop, an art gallery, swimwear shop and real estate among other incarnations. Ironically, it was the same shop where Matt bought his first fibreglass surfboard in the early 1980’s. It was an amazing place to be for over 25 years as a place to work, to raise a family and be part of a wonderful community.
In 2021 we moved to a new beachfront address at Kirra with a collective of health practitioners. Similarly it’s a great spot with a lovely feel. Co-Habitat has the added bonus of more space and better parking.
We are located on Musgrave Street facing the beach at Kirra, Coolangatta. It’s on the corner of Musgrave and Douglas streets. Meet Matt Butel Chiropractor Kirra for all your chiropractic needs.

More about Matt
The beach life was always an attraction. Aside from the calling to work within physical therapy, one of the attractions to private practice was being able to set up beachside. If it weren’t for the lure of study and a career change, Matt may have remained a Gold Coast City lifeguard, a role he enjoyed from school age and throughout university studies. Meet Matt Butel Chiropractor Kirra to learn more about his unique approach.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Queensland was completed in 1990. A two year Masters in Chiropractic clinical science from Macquarie University and the Sydney College of Chiropractic completed the requirements for professional registration.
Matt has a qualification in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS) from the Prague School of Rehabilitation. DNS is the gold standard in motor control therapy for injury and postural rehabilitation. Positional relief and active exercises are heavily influenced by the knowledge of infant developmental milestones (ontogenesis) and how it relates to children and adults alike.
Practice History:
Private practice from 1993 began in a multidisciplinary clinic, Bayside Physical Therapies. A close working relationship existed with other practitioners including physiotherapists and doctors. Time spent in this practice and the development of skills required to perform an expanded role with professional athletes has strongly influenced the way Matt approaches his patients.
Often described as ‘not like other Chiropractors’, Matt has continued to expand his skill set throughout his career. He utilises many treatment approaches rather than trying to apply the same model for every patient. Manipulation and mobilisation of the spine and extremities is often a part of patient care. In many cases stabilisation through strapping, bracing and postural correction is a more appropriate course of action. Some people will respond to dry needling where others may have a better result from a release technique. It’s all about working out the best course of action for a given situation and it’s this sense of problem solving that inspires Matt.
Teams and Event Care:
An introduction to event care began in 1992 at the Coke Classic, Narrabeen. In his early years of practice Matt worked at various sporting events.
In 1994 he worked at the Billabong Kirra Pro and has continued each year to be a member of the medical team for that event which became the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro in 2000. The Snapper competition became a Challenger Series event in 2023. It makes a return as a championship tour event in 2025.

Billabong Pro, Tahiti (2001-2005).
Fiji Pro (2003, 2004, 2006, 2015, 2024).
